There is no serial port on my PC's motherboard... What is the alternative???

Well, i need to drive an evaluation board consisting of Atmel's ATMEGA8L microcontroller. This evaluation board is driven from a computer through usb port and serial port, both. For that i have a usb connector (that connects through computer and my circuit) and a serial port (that connects through the serial port of the computer and the circuit) present at the back side of the PC's usually. In my PC, there is no serial port.. I have bought a usb-to-serial convertor cable, but i am still not able to drive that evaluation board through serial port as it helps in transmitting the data from computer to serial port of the circuit.. If somebody out there can me help me out in simulating the program from AVR studio4 software (a source editor) to Megaload ( that helps in simulating the ATMEGA8L IC)...
