What kind of switch to use?
I need to build a light where if the switch is in position 1, a red LED will turn on, and in position 2, a white LED will turn on. I went to Radio Shack today, and the salesman gave me a DPDT switch to use. After looking at some wiring diagrams, I don't think this is the kind of switch I need.If it is, could someone tell me how to wire it so it does what I need it to do? If it can't do this, what kind of switch do I need.
Help ASAP is appreciated.

Looks like all you need is a DPST switch. You wire the common(throw) to your Power Source. In the up position contact of the switch you wire one side to the Current Limiting calculated resistor going to the Anode of the Red LED and the other side of the LED(cathode) to the return of the power source. The down position of the switch contact you wire to the second current limiting resistor going to the Anode of the White LED and the cathode side to the power source return. Of course you have to do your Ohms law to calculate the size resistor you are going to use per the specifications of the LEDS you are using.
