Why does my pool light trip the GFI breaker after being on for 15 minutes?
I checked the light and there is no water in the housing unit. However, after being on for 15 or more minutes the GFI breaker trips.
This is not a safety problem because the GFI is taking care of the problem. The GFI trips on very very little fault current so if it takes 15 minutes the fault is very slight. Still you need to fix what appears to be a slight short. These shorts are usually caused by corrode conduit that allows water (dirty or chlorinated so it is conductive) into the area of electrical connections.To isolate the short disconnect as close to the load (pool light?) as you can and then work toward the Power Panel. Worst case, you will need to replace some buried conduit. Sorry.
